Recently, I decided I wanted to see what it would be like to launch an app. I wanted to try it out and practice marketing. Plus, everyone seems to have an app or a store these days–how hard could it be?
The Idea
The first challenge was thinking of an idea. I wanted something simple enough to build on a first try but interesting enough to actually get downloaded. Thinking back to games I used to play on the type of phone that attached to a wall, I remembered Lemons…it seemed like a perfect match. I assumed it would be a popular app already, but when I searched for it in the App Store, nothing came up. Surprised, I searched for its close cousin, the MASH game (i.e. Mansion, Apartment, Shack, House); there were tons of them listed on the app store.
Am I Imagining Things?

With zero results for Lemons, I thought maybe it was just something regional to Redmond/Sammamish, Washington circa mid-late ’90s? Or, maybe not. After more thorough Googling, I came across a Wiki-How and an entry in Urban Dictionary, confirming the game did actually exist and I wasn’t the only one that played this. (However, I have to disagree with the definition…it’s more fun and lighthearted than dirty; like mad libs or Snapchat, it’s whatever you want it to be…the power is yours!) With these Google results and vivid memory of playing this game, I decided to find out a) if I could resuscitate it to its former glory and b) if I could actually build and launch an app. Will it work out? Only time will tell…
